Deon played his college football at the University of West Alabama where he was a Harlon Hill Finalist in 2009-2010 and was inducted into the schools Hall of Fame in 2018.
Deon also played baseball in college and was the 2006 National Old Spice Player of the Year and was drafted in the 2006 MLB Draft.

Venue: Bobby Gruhn Field at City ParkMathis has coached for 12 years at the college and high school level, including a stop at Ole Miss. As a strength and conditioning coach he has trained numerous players that went on to play college football, more than twenty future NFL players, and four first round draft picks. Mathis is certified through USA Weightlifting as a Sports Performance Coach and the IYCA as a High School Strength and Conditioning Specialist. He holds a Master's of Science degree (MS) and is currently working on his PhD in Exercise and Sport Science.
